More JE Thoughts
So, I've just finished reading a good deal of RTD's script for JE (if you haven't seen it, you can find it here). I love how much fun he has with it; it's a very distinctive, fun sort of writing style.
But. The episode.
Random Thoughts on JE:
1. The scenes that really needed to be there but weren't: a Rose/Jack conversation, a Rose/Ten II conversation, and someone protesting the whole 'The Doctor turns his companions into weapons' thing.
2. What. The. Fuck. Ending. Overload of angst is still overload, and unnecessary, and frustrating, and infuriating. They all have someone else, running away from Rose, Donna's "last words" begging the Doctor to stop. The Doctor alone and soaking and staring desolately off into the distance; the last words of the script are even "All the time in the world.
And all alone."
Ugh.
3. It... would have been nice if Martha weren't walking a desolate earth alone again. Like, really nice.
4. UNNECESSARY ANGST WAS UNNECESSARY!!!
That said, I really want to write a) How Master and Lucy Met, and b) Post-JE Ten II/Rose. And I still need to write universe-hopping Rose, and finally upload that Doctor/Rose/Master chapter, and there's the Doctor Who/Farscape fic, and the River Song/Jack/Ten II/Rose fic I'm not sure if I've mentioned in here yet.
...I can't wait till next semester. Maybe I'll actually have time to write.
ETA: It would also have been nice for Rose to somehow show us what else she's been doing in that AU other than trying to get back to the Doctor. I mean, you know she's been badass exploring that Earth, defending it, and going out on mad drunken karaoke nights with Jake and Mickey and that awesome woman from the office down the hall. It just would've been nice to see about some of it.

There's a feeling in fandom that if you're a shipper and you don't like JE you're ungrateful, because he gave us our happy ending. But my quarrel isn't so much with the ending itself as the way they wallowed in the Doctor's misery. Even with Donna gone, surely there could have been a shred of hope in that last scene - maybe a smile as he thought about the two of them happy together, or a phone call from Jack or Martha?
But no. It had to be laid on with a trowel and we'd seen it all before. Twice. Let's hope Eleven, whoever he is, just can't act the angst.

Exactly.
Donna could have accepted her fate or told him that it was okay, the Doctor could have had a proper goodbye with Rose, Martha or Jack or Sarah Jane could have called him or one of them could have at least left the door open for him to come to them. Something.
Instead, everyone has someone else and the Doctor gets to be alone and miserable. Not even the awesomeness that is Wilf could make up for that.
