A Discovery

Ok, as you all might or might not know, I've been obsessively reading Doctor Who fanfics for, oh, about the past month (I know, I know, it makes me kinda sad too), especially Rose/Doctor ones (because, come on, they're adorable). Basically, the two have the whole "We clearly love one another but won't do anything about it cuz the Doc'd get hurt" thing going on. And I've noticed something in fanfic world (besides the fact that most of the fics are terrible, which is to be expected): people seem to be completely incapable of finding a nice medium. There are almost always too extremes: the "Let-me-say-absolutely-everything-amidst-much-drama!" and the much rarer "Let's be cynical to the point of death."

Example for extreme 1 )

Example for extreme 2 )

Now, the Doctor and Rose are not creatures that suddenly decide to reveal their emotions and have hott smexx. They're very human (character-wise, anyway) and can't just drop all inhibitions. But at the same time, there's not this great hostile tension between them that would force them apart if one of them finally did something. Bloody hell, realism is not cynicism, just as fanfiction isn't the place to figure out some half-assed reason for the two to get a good shag in. Is a balance THAT hard to find?

...And now to actually do my hw. I just had to put this somewhere because my roommate is pretty fed up with my DW obsessing.

Ta mates.
