Sort of swiped from [profile] ariastar, but as I just woke up and it seemed better than reading through the fic chapter that's been giving me hell this week, I figured, why not? After all, almost every single one of my ships is canon, since that's what gets me interested in the first place.

So, without further ado:

Crichton/Aeryn: (Farscape) As the first ever ship that I remember, I think this one does a good job of setting the scene: epic love story, strong characters, angst and love in equal measure, and completely batshit crazy. Seriously, if you've watched this show, you'll know what I'm talking about: Farscape is dramatic, sci-fi, epic, intimate, crazy, angsty, hilarious, heartbreaking, clever, and just frelling awesome.

And I grew up on it.

And I grew up watching Crichton and Aeryn yell and kiss and blow shit up and get tortured and save the universe. And, granted, her character arc was focused a bit too much on making her into someone who could be with Crichton, and the whole love>>EVERYTHING ELSE trope was overused, but... It was still crazy and beautiful. (As was the show. Watch this show!)

Doctor/Rose: (Doctor Who) So, you all know "Army of Ghosts/Doomsday", right? The epic love story turned tragedy culminating in a heartbreaking goodbye on Bad Wolf Bay?

That was the first episode I saw. (Well, more or less. I saw "The End of the World" months before but didn't get into it much, which is ironic since that's one of my favorite episodes now. Anyway, moving on.)

After "Doomsday", I skittered over to Amazon, made big-wide-eyes at my mom, and ordered the DVDs for seasons 1 and 2. If you've been keeping up with my lj at all, the rest is sort of history.

I love the Doctor (Nine, Ten, whoever), I love his angst, I love his knowledge and even his hypocrisy, I love his emotional disconnect, and I love how fundamentally good but also royally screwed up he is. I also love Rose: her bravery, her easy joy, her cleverness, her kick-assness, her selfishness, her compassion, and her single-mindedness. I love them both for their strengths and their flaws and just how much they can accomplish, and I love how adorable and happy and even how selfishly into one another they can get. Granted, I'm really happy Rose got away from the Doctor for a while, as the dynamics were not going to turn out well unless she was able to grow on her own, but...

I see them having amazing adventures in the AU, and munching on popcorn and bananas, and having food fights and regular fights, and the Doctor wandering the Earth and going stir crazy, and them building their own time machine (if the Time Agency can do it...), and just being the Stuff of Legends.

I love them. ^.^

Also, I still really really really need to watch some more Old-School Who. Eight's tv movie and Four's Sutek episodes just... didn't do it for me. Suggestions, anyone?

Jack/Ianto: (Torchwood) Okay, this one is weird, because in season 1 of Torchwood? The kiss was cute, and it was better than Jack/Gwen because that pairing always felt forced to me--but honestly? I really didn't care. Bring in season 2 and I really came to like it (I think it was the "To the Last Man" scene that did it), but I was actually happy not to be in fandom because Ianto and Jack are sort of jerks, and the emotional continuity makes about as much sense as falling in love with someone who killed your girlfriend two months ago. (Exactly.)

Bring in Children of Earth, which gave us actual development and on-screen stuff to work with, and I wrote mini-fic because I felt they had a great dynamic... And then "Day Four" happened, and that needed to be fixed. I've ranted about this in other places, but really? I think Ianto's a fascinating character, I think Jack is getting shoe-horned into the Doctor's character development path, and there is just so much potential in their characters and their relationship that went unexplored.

Mulder/Scully: (The X-Files) Okay, this was the couple that created UST, and it did so in a sci-fi setting. There's just such respect between them, and genuine caring, and they're both so complex and messed up and caring and loyal to one another, even as they're very focused on themselves. Love it.

Angela/Constantine: (Constantine) Again, angst, respect, UST, screwed up people in love, and the tendency to rescue one another. And they were my first fanfic-inducing canon ship. I'm sensing an angst-pattern here...

George/Mitchell/Annie friendship: (Being Human) My latest ship. Just watch the show, see how they all bounce off of one another, see how adorable and strong those connections are, see how much they rely on one another, and just try to tell me you don't understand why they're awesome. Just try and tell me that. Because you won't be able to.

OTHER:
Daniel/Jack: (Stargate SG-1) This one is special in that... it's pretty much the only non-canon ship I have (even though the writers Lampshade it, and Michael Shanks admits it comes off that way). But they have this delightful banter, and "Abyss" (in which Jack is tortured and Daniel is there for him in spirit-y form) totally sold me on the relationship and its depth.

And that's it, folks. :)
