Livejournal! I have missed you!!!
I need to share more DS9 thoughts with you. :D
Season 4 remains good. I even loved Bashir as James Bond going "Honey," though mainly because Garak did all the eye-rolling for me.
Gender politics remain terrible, and I don't know whether I'm frustrated or amused that Kira and Samantha Carter are treated about the same in their relationships (powerful men in love with them, yay gender essentialism despite what else might be important about this character).
There's some great Kira/Sisko friendship stuff going on, though, and Dax is her own character, and Odo is awesome. As is Garak. And Dukat. Even Sisko's interesting now, and Bashir (on his own, despite the sexism) is growing on me. The character interactions are all interesting and work. Absolutely loving the overarching plot, though I can see where all the B5 rivalry came from.
I am amused that it took a literal growth of beard for this show to suddenly become awesome.
ETA: OH GOD THEY DO A ROMANCE BETWEEN GARAK AND THE 18 YEAR OLD GIRL MADE OF INNOCENCE AND JOY? I. REALLY??? I REALIZE YOU HATE GAYNESS THAT LASTS IN ANY SIGNIFICANT FORM ON THIS SHOW, BUT REALLY.
It's like every squicky part of Doctor/Rose with none of the redeeming features, given that he is, you know, conniving and cruel, and she's the picture of kindness and naivite.
Like, the heteroifying isn't even my issue. He's bi, the show was made 15 years ago, whatever. The gender roles, with the character stuff, is just so gross and wrong, and I'm fairly certain it's not meant to be.
...I am so squicked I can't even.
