salienne: (Farscape Aeryn)

...which is another way of saying, analyzing Farscape is so so so much fun. I still have issues with the fact that half of Aeryn's arc is making her someone who can love Crichton back, but after watching obsessively for the past few days (yes, while in Russia... I'm sad, I know, but I need something to do at night!), my love and analytical powerz are in full swing.

Oh, and "The Choice" has to be one of the best pieces of television ever. Ever. Ever. Don't believe me? Go to sidereel.com and watch. It's mind-blowingly good. And it makes me love and understand Aeryn's character so much more. How the hell Claudia Black hasn't won about 20,000 Emmies by now, I don't even know.

Although it's going to take a lot more rewatching of season 3 for me to figure out how the hell Moya-Crichton thought the child could be his or why he didn't find it odd that Aeryn wasn't showing at the start of season 4.

Also, I really want to put up a review of Green-Eyed Monster at some point, mainly because I love it but still want to rant about the flaws that boil down to our beloved Ben Browder's writing ethic of, "I am going to write an awesome story for these characters" instead of, "I am going to write an awesome story for these characters". When the literature and subtlety get in the way of character/situation believability, I get annoyed. Which sucks, because my love remains immense.

...And I really really need to sleep now.

Ta mates!

P.S. Farscape/Doctor Who fic, you will be written dammit, you will. Just need to get me Crichton's voice/motivations figured out a bit more, because his moments of empathy clash with his moments of lack of empathy and it's hard to figure out what's due to the situation and what's sloppy writing and what's character progression and, damn, that stuff really tends to throw a girl.

I never really thought the show was about making Aeryn into someone who could love Crichton back, I always saw it as making Aeryn more. She starts caring deeply about these people - er - aliens, friendships, loyalty, not blindly following orders and being an even bigger BA than should be possible. I freaking love Aeryn. But now that I think about it, maybe it can be flipped: making Aeryn into someone Crichton can love, but that doesn't really fit 'cause he definately fell in love with her first. Now I've confused myself.

The Choice is one of the best episodes ever made, totally agree. But it's not one of the episodes I rewatch over and over, it's so depressing.

Although it's going to take a lot more rewatching of season 3 for me to figure out how the hell Moya-Crichton thought the child could be his or why he didn't find it odd that Aeryn wasn't showing at the start of season 4.

Lol, I'm a firm believer that Aeryn and John had sex in A Human Reaction. Has the whole weird stasis pregnency thing been explained yet? I haven't watched in awhile and I can't remember when we found that out.

OH! DOCTOR WHO/FARSCAPE CROSS-OVER FIC!!!! *GRABBY HANDS*

Oh, definitely, and this point was hammered in so much in "The Choice" that I am now much happier with her character arc. And maybe it's the fact that so much of the latter half of the show is "Aeryn/Crichton Aeryn/Crichton, Aeryn is now all that matters to Crichton even though he has a whole ship of friends CRICHTON/AERYN" that I have issues. And I think I also remember one of the show-writers basically saying that part of her arc was how to make her love Crichton back, though I could be wrong there.

So I am going to try to focus on her becoming something more, a soldier but someone with compassion and the ability to think for herself and just someone who is overall awesome on all levels of awesome.

I'm a firm believer that Aeryn and John had sex in A Human Reaction.

So was that Aeryn? Or weird "clone" Aeryn? 'Cos I just can't see Aeryn playing along with all that, and I was just always very confused on if she even knew what had happened. Though after seeing The Choice, I suppose she must have...

Though I firmly join you in the firm belief that, yes, they had sex.

Though even then, I don't think that would explain the baby. Because Crichton didn't know about the "stasis" when he first thought it was his/might not be his/might be the other Crichton's. So in his mind, I think it had to be just a few months.

...Which still doesn't make sense with the fact that, months after he finds out, she's still not showing, but, um, plot hole...? Or it's only been like 2 months and her hair grows very very fast?

OH! DOCTOR WHO/FARSCAPE CROSS-OVER FIC!!!! *GRABBY HANDS*

You'll have to wait quite a bit, I'm afraid, but it will happen, I promise! I have the first chapter figured out (it's very much a Farscape teaser sort of scene, plus some bits in the TARDIS), but I still have to figure out, well, a plot beyond "they go to some planet and stuff happens and the Doctor and Crichton bond."
