The 2nd X-Files movie: in which Mulder and Scully each pursue their own neuroses and Scully’s motivations in terms of their relationship make no freaking sense. "I’m not coming home because I don’t like what you’ve been doing for the past two days. And I don’t want to ‘look into that darkness’ anymore, which I’ve decided just for this movie." Talk about forced conflict. Forced conflict that doesn’t even really have a resolution besides she takes it back, I guess?

Also, what happened to being on the run? I mean, they’re fighting the oncoming alien invasion by… sitting in a room and working in a hospital? Not to mention avoiding the government and Skinner (and presumably Dogget and Reyes) and anything paranormal and anyone who could possibly help.

Okay then.

And why are the bad guys Russian? Why are the bad guys always Russian? (And apparently gay and married in MA? Why was that even there, besides to inject pointless molestation-turns-you-gay and homophobia into the movie?)

Speaking of random, what was the deal with the Mulder/female agent subtext? Again, forced conflict. And pointless.

And SLO-MO KISS IN GLOWING WHITE LIGHT WITH CRESCENDOING MUSIC! *Cracks up* I’m a Mulder/Scully shipper, and that was still awful, partially because the dialogue there felt like it had too much cut and the build-up was rather lame/made no sense.

So… overall, I enjoyed it, although one might not assume so from this entry. Mulder was awesome, Scully had her moments, and SKINNER!!!

The problem was, its plot, character motivations, and dialogue just didn’t make sense half the time.

I agree. Unexpected!Skinner was my favorite part of the movie. I yelped with glee.

I almost did, but as I'd spent the past 5 minutes wondering why she didn't just call him instead of the useless FBI guy, the moment was a bit ruined.

Although the Mulder/Skinner cuddle-fest just about made me a shipper. :D

I know! the movie would have had such better actual real conflict, and would have made much more sense, if this were acknowledged. Like, continuing to help the FBI was Really Really Dangerous, but Mulder's single-mindedness was forcing him to keep involved. And Scully was regretting getting involved for reasons that made more sense, especially with the "I have to keep my alias to keep helping this boy, but I just outed us" stuff. And it could still have been the stand-alone MOTW.

Definitely better than the "Tired of chasing the Darkness" stuff they came up with.

yeah seriously. "the darkness" crap was bullshit. she spent 9 years working for the fbi and loved it. i'll never forget how she told bill on her DYING BED that she didn't regret joining the FBI so another wtf?
