Christmas special initial reaction

1. HPOAYHOPYAOEYOPIUARE SO GOOD GUYS SO FREAKING GOOD! Seriously, that was very very well done, it wasn't nearly as repetitive or depressing as last year's, and Rosita and Morrison's "Doctor" and our Doctor just have great chemistry. The plot is fun and Miss Hartigan is great. I love it.
2. How exactly did Miss Hartigan meet the Cybermen...? Like was that ever explained? Although I love how really looking at herself and the horrors that she's responsible for are what destroys her; I love that theme.
3. The Doctor is Officially Depressed. He has bad dreams, he has nothing worth living for, and his companions all break his heart. Great. Now, show... why don't you do something about it?
ETA: So I'm trying to figure out if the sexism was intentionally placed to go with the time-period or just RTD not realizing what he's writing and how it comes off. I'm leaning towards the former, because it wasn't the awkward almost-subtext of Moffat but more obvious "You are a woman and thus I make decisions" stuff, and because Miss Hartigan goes on about it so much.
Thoughts?

Date: 2008-12-26 04:00 am (UTC)...I also choose to think that, unless I am otherwise specifically told, the Doctor is going to hang out with Jackson for a while and Have Adventures before he wanders off again. Because Jackson obviously wants him around! Yeah. :D

Date: 2008-12-26 04:09 am (UTC)I agree. Since the show is so poor at emotional continuity, though, I'm rather doubtful of follow-through.
Still, one can hope, especially since RTD has been beating this into the viewer's head. Perhaps there's to be a gradual reversal (vs. self-sacrificial regeneration or sudden "Life is actually really good and why can't I seen it?" moment)?

I like that.
And someone smacks Jackson for thinking Rosita=woman and thus his bitch.
Then the three of them can be awesome.
