Torchwood: Children of Earth: Day 2
Jul. 7th, 2009 07:51 pmThe last one I gave 5/5. This one, I'm gonna go with 4/5. Not because it was bad; by no means. It just didn't hit the level of absolutely amazing that was yesterday's, the cliffhanger was nowhere near as edge-of-your-seat, and the body language in the second to last scene was all off. Last episode, Ianto hugs Jack for getting shot. This episode, Jack was blown up, grew back, awoke in agony, was buried in concrete, and that concrete was then shattered. Ianto couldn't even be sure that Jack was alive.
And he just stands there...?
This isn't me being a rabid Janto shipper or anything, this is me just going, buh? What happened to the characters and what we saw last ep?
I don't want them having sex in the quarry or anything, but a look, a hug, something more than the weird distance we got. I mean, obviously they hug or something in the car, but as it is now, it was just odd.
Anyway...
On the positive, Ianto got some great development beyond Jack, Rhys was clever and useful and domestic and entertaining, the side-characters grew tons, the plot progressed, and I officially love Gwen now.
I'll repeat that.
I love Gwen. I hated her in season 1, and grew to like her in season 2. But she is now tied for my favorite character with Ianto. Jack's 3rd simply because his reactions to trauma make about as much sense as a time-traveling police box, but I doubt that's going to be changed anytime soon.
Bring on tomorrow!
(Also, beware, there be spoilers in the comments.)
ETA: RE: "Jack's reactions to trauma" - No, no, never mind, they do make sense. He's just supposed to be immensely maladjusted, trying to live purely in the moment because looking back hurts too much. And because he's got the guilt and self-loathing of about ten Doctors.
Greeeeaaaaaat.

Date: 2009-07-08 01:37 am (UTC)The moment they said Gwen was pregnant and I realized that I couldn't stop smiling for her was the moment I knew how much I loved Gwen. I've never really hated her, thought she was a bit useless at times, but I didn't think I really loved her. But I totes do. So much. ♥
IS IT TOMORROW YET?
