Beauty and the Beast
Sep. 8th, 2008 12:58 amSo, after rewatching for the first time in years (and years and years...), I have realized that Shrek is actually Beauty and the Beast 2.0. Except, um, done better.
If BatB had like 30 more minutes of development (instead of a by-the-book storyline along with a pretty song and the love-story-in-24-hours), I would enjoy it a lot more. Although it is refreshing to see the attractive evil person and the girl getting along just fine without the guy, who completely falls apart when she's gone. Even if I'm still unsure if I loathe Belle. I really wish her character were less Good Strong Woman Characteristics and more Actual Personality.
That said, I totally agree with Billie Piper's analogy. Because I am happy for them, I realize it's the best possible outcome, but... I want the Beast back, dammit! (Especially since we never ever ever got to know the Prince, even if they are the same person. In other words, good analogy Billie Piper!)
...And I really wish Disney's execution was a bit better.
