Thoughts on watching Utopia:

Martha gets very wrapped up in men. Like… to a major extent. When she first sees Jack and finds out he has no heartbeat, he wakes up, and she doesn’t question it because he flirts with her and then there’s the whole Rose/companions/getting left behind thing. There's not one word spent on the subject. Out-of-verse, that's sloppy writing. In-verse, I suppose that's Martha getting caught up in guys...

The Doctor is cruel. Seriously, confront him with Jack and he can’t go without making comments on the immortality in such an off-hand, almost mean way. Not so good at hiding something when its cause is staring him in the face and pretty much jabbing him in the ribs, is he?

A bit of possible sexism/racism (though I’d prolly go for sexism): the Professor is looking for the Doctor. He finds Martha, Jack, and the Doctor and only looks at the two men, almost as if she doesn’t exist. Granted, she is really short compared to them, and they do make more imposing figures, so it could just be charisma, but still. Though there’s also the possibility that the Master’s obvious sexism (“How inappropriate. Killed by an insect. A girl") played a part here.

Oh, and this episode was also nonstop amazing. Seriously. I laughed, I grinned, I bounced, my heart sped up…

Whoever says RTD can’t write is nuts. I love it. XD I mean, sure, it has some flaws (mainly in that, once I look for it, Martha’s portrayal is rather iffy at parts) but I comment on those because everything else is bloody fantastic.

….And I’ll now go do my hw and grab dinner.

(Hey, that almost rhymed! :D)

Okay, so, yes, I am a geek and read this book for pleasure. And being the geek I am, I really really liked it. So. Freaking. Creepy. And really good... I went to bed an hour late (and since I had to get up early, that hour made a difference @_@) 'cos I couldn't stop reading.

So then...

Heathcliff=rather worse than Snape, although I maintain that there are fundamental similarities between the two. Both characters are fascinating, though.

Hell, I love all the characters in "Wuthering Heights", 'cos they seem to have so much more to them than the "one truth" we talked about in English when analyzing "Pride and Prejudice". That, however, is most likely a result of the 1st person POV--very good move. Beyond the fact that the speakers cannot possibly remember everything they relate, it works perfectly.

My one real complaint is that Lockwood is pretty much useless. I know that, if I were reading this book for English, we'd make this big deal about how it's a 1st p. POV within a 1st p. POV (sometimes within yet another 1st p. POV) but, honestly, all Lockwood does is give us another perspective and provide a conduit for Mrs. Dean's tale. And while the out-of-verse perspective is important (and, again, a good move that I like), in terms of purposefully constructing a novel, I don't think Lockwood's role was thought out enough for him to provide anything more than that. Hence I would fail English because I think the writer just went with it when she thought, "I want Nelly to tell Heathcliff's story. But someone has to listen. I know!"... Least that's how I work. And then I give it meaning after. ^.^

Oh, and the last paragraph? So. Absolutely. Gorgeous. Just, read this and tell me if you don't agree (no real spoilers, in case, by some chance, I'm not the only one who reads Emily Bronte for fun):

I lingered round them, under that benign sky; watched the moths fluttering among the heath, and hare-bells, listened to the soft wind breathing through the grass, and wondered how any one could ever imagine unquiet slumbers for the sleepers in that quiet earth.

So... all hail Emily Bronte! I really wish she'd gotten a chance to write more novels before her death. It be sad.

Okay, and now I'm off. To write or play video games or shower, perhaps all of the above. :D

I didn't feel this necessary deserved an entry of itself, but I needed to complain about how UNFAIR it is that PotC 1 and LotR 2 are now showing at the exact same time. That's just cruel... 'cos I can't possibly watch both. T-T

Well, after a hella long time waiting, I just saw the last episode of "Miracles" (the show was canceled because people are so stupid; it was a really good show).

Now, my problem:

As an episode, "Paul is Dead" gets 9.5/10 (.5 deducted because of a lack of real answers and because the actress can't actually cry). This was an AWESOME episode, with great plot, great moments, great character relations, etc. etc.

But as a season finale, much less a SERIES finale, it gets a 6/10 (7/20 if we're just looking at it as a season finale, as we should've been). We get no real answers, though it looks like we might, and the "mythology", using X-Files terminology, just goes around in circles. There is NOTHING new here, and I called the ending during the first 10 minutes of the ep (though the episode obviously wanted you to, but still).

Bah... I would like this episode so much better if it were a real ending, or at LEAST gave us something new besides the final shot of the sheet...

Stupid canceling people.

So... a day after getting the book, I have finished "Eclipse" by Stephanie Meyer (I would have finished it last night had I not had my driving exam today; I totally got my license, btw! XD) and, as a result, have me quite a few thoughts on it. And here they be, under a cut, just in case some of you are reading too.

Why I loved this book, and why some parts of it bug me to no end )

So… yeah, definite mixed feelings about “Eclipse” that I just had to share with my fl, even if probably no one has read the book but me. :P But really, y'all should check it out, because it IS a good book. It just has its flaws, and besides that "writing" flaw, the flaws are really just centered around my opinions.
